The largest cryptocurrencies in the world
As inflation rises, owners of cryptocurrencies enjoy huge increases in value. In the case of Bitcoin, one record followed the next in 2021. These cryptocurrencies are worth the most
The gold rush mood
around cryptocurrencies has reached a new high. However, 2021 suggests the following: growth is still a long way from reaching its limits. In the case of Bitcoin, it has recently been almost idle to announce new record highs. At the end of 2020, experts were still puzzled given the high of 23,000 US dollars: When will the hype end? But the price of the first cryptocurrency in history rose and rose and rose.
The largest cryptocurrencies
Bitcoin jumped over the $ 50,000 threshold for the first time in February 2021. In November, the digital currency scratched the $ 70,000 mark. Will a Bitcoin soon be worth even $ 100,000? Almost nothing seems to be excluded anymore. In 2010 nobody would have believed it. Back then, in the first known commercial Bitcoin transaction, a pizza was exchanged for 50,000 Bitcoin. According to the current status, that would be around 3.5 billion US dollars.
However, Bitcoin investors have to cope with severe setbacks again and again: The cryptocurrency has long since passed its November high. At the moment, a Bitcoin "only" costs just under $ 43,000.
In 2010, the cryptocurrency was still in its infancy. A year earlier, the inventor Satoshi Nakamoto, who appears under a pseudonym, published the open-source reference software. Nakamoto had designed Bitcoin as an alternative to regular currencies. While they are constantly being devalued by bringing more and more money into circulation, Bitcoin was limited to a maximum of 21 million units from the start. Since keys to digital wallets are constantly being lost, the number of Bitcoin in circulation is falling to a not inconsiderable extent.
The enormous demand is also helping other cryptocurrencies to keep setting new records. At the end of 2021, these were the largest cryptocurrencies in the world in terms of market value :
#10 Avalanche
This ranking is based on the CoinMarketCap.com database (as of December 20, 2021). The analysis platform listed 8410 cryptocurrencies. In terms of market capitalization, number ten was Avalanche (symbol: AVAX) with 22.5 billion euros. The blockchain platform requires very little hardware and at the end of 2021 recorded growth rates of over a third over seven days. Avalanche was ahead of Polkadot and Dogecoin and Shiba Inu, which were started as dog fun projects.
